Robert F. Brands is President and founder of Brands & Company, LLC. Having gained hands-on experience in bringing innovation to market,creating and improving the necessary product development processes and needed culture, he delivered and exceeded to bring “at least one new product per year to market” resulting in double digit profitable growth and shareholder value.
Most recently Brands was President for Lindal Americas covering four plants in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and the U.S.. Before Lindal, Brands served as Managing Director of the Personal Care Division of Rexam Plastics. In this position, he was responsible for P&L, including worldwide marketing and sales,operations and R&D. Rexam Personal Care Division represents about $1B in sales,with 25 sites worldwide, about 11,000 employees in three Business Units: Dispensing Systems(fine fragrance mist, samplers,lotion,foam,and specialty dispensers),Make Up (Lipsticks, Mascara and Compacts) and HPC (custom molding).
After Rexam’s acquisition of Airspray NV in May of 2006 and until August of 2007,Brands was responsible for Rexam Dispensing Systems with eleven sites and about $400M in sales.He implemented best innovation practices initially in the Dispensing Systems division and later in the Personal Care Division that aided in numerous and significant new product introductions,such as L’Oreal’s most successful consumer product introductions in years.
Rexam Airspray N.V is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and supply of innovative non-aerosol foam technology, used by consumer product companies around the world. Under Brands’ stewardship as President of Airspray Int’l, Inc.since 1998 and since 2004 as CEO of the Dutch public company, Airspray created the international market for instant foam dispensing. Here,Brands delivered consistent double-digit profitable growth.
Prior to joining Airspray in 1998, Brands was Vice President -Marketing of Kohler Company,where he led marketing efforts for Kohler Plumbing Fixtures (1995 to 1998), an $800 million operating unit.Here,he was responsible for line profitability,product management,pricing, market research and all marketing services.
From 1993-1995, Brands was Vice President -Marketing of Sterling Plumbing Group,Inc.(also a Kohler Company),where he directed all advertising,sales promotion,market research,pricing,product management and new product development for the Sterling retail brand servicing mainly the big box chains like Lowes and Home Depot.
Previously, Brands was Marketing Manager -Consumer Lighting, for GTE/Sylvania Lighting Division (1989-1993),where he developed consumer marketing programs for this $210 million division and orchestrated the development and launch of groundbreaking new products and packaging designs like Double Life bulbs and Dual Graphics.Brand’s professional experience also includes positions as Manager of New Consumer Products at Philips Lighting Company,and Manager and International Trade Advisor for the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (U.S.).
A native of The Netherlands, Brands earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from HTS Eindhoven. A TEC (Vistage.com) Member, Member of Tulane University’s President’s Parent Council, Board member of Netherlands American Community Trust, Brands is an avid sailor, open water diver and a licensed pilot of single-engined aircraft. He resides in Stuart, Florida with his wife and children.
